HOW DROPS WORK
Drops are Boxed Up's weekly limited-card releases: a box you can open for a chance at a brand-new, numbered Green card with a fixed supply. Here is what is in the box, how the odds and serials work, and why the chase card is usually gone within the hour.
AT A GLANCE
- A drop goes live
Weekly, on Sundays for Boxed Up. Each drop has one chase card, a price per open, shown odds, and a fixed supply.
- You open the box
One open, one card: the limited card if you hit the odds, otherwise a regular card of the tier the box advertises.
- Green cards are minted in order
Each copy gets the next serial number — #1 goes to whoever hits it first. All digital, all in your collection.
- It sells out
When the last copy is claimed the drop closes. From then on the card only changes hands between players.
DROP QUESTIONS
- What is a drop in Boxed Up?
- A drop is a limited-time box release built around one chase card. While the drop is live you can open its box as many times as you like, and each open gives you either the drop's limited card or a regular card. Drops run on a weekly cycle — Boxed Up's go live on Sundays, usually as a small set of boxes released an hour apart — and each one stays open for a week or until its limited card sells out, whichever comes first.
- What do I get when I open a drop box?
- One card per open. It is either the drop's limited card, or a regular card of the rarity tier the box advertises — a Super Rare box gives you a Super Rare or better if you miss the chase card. Every drop box has a small chance of coming out as a holographic glow version of whichever card you pull. Everything is a digital card in your collection; nothing is posted to you.
- What are Green cards?
- Green is the rarity used for drop chase cards. A Green card is a brand-new sneaker card that debuts in that drop — it is not an upgraded version of a card that already exists — and it has a fixed supply set before the drop goes live. Every copy carries a serial number, minted in the order it was pulled, so the first player to hit the card gets #1. Once every copy has been claimed the drop is sold out and no more will ever be minted. After that the only way to get one is from another player, through the marketplace or a trade offer.
- What are the odds of pulling the limited card?
- Each drop shows its own odds in the app as a 1-in-N chance per open, and that figure is the real chance the server uses — it is not adjusted by how many boxes you or anyone else has opened. The odds differ from drop to drop: a card with a bigger supply is usually easier to hit than a headline card with a very small one. Because they change every week, this site does not print them; check the drop itself for the current number.
- Why do drops sell out so fast?
- Demand for a Green card is far larger than its supply. When a popular drop goes live, thousands of boxes are opened in the first few minutes, and with a fixed number of copies the card is usually fully claimed well inside the week. The live counter on the drop screen shows how many copies have been claimed so far, and pulls appear in real time as other players hit the card, so you can see how much is left before you spend anything.
- Is there a limit on how many I can pull?
- Often, yes. Most drops cap each player at one pull of the limited card, so one person cannot clear the supply — once you have hit it you can keep opening the box for regular cards, but the limited card is no longer in your pool. Some headline drops also require a minimum account level to open. Both limits are shown on the drop before you open it. Opening is also paced server-side to a few seconds between boxes, so scripts and sped-up clients gain nothing.
- What is rough luck?
- Rough luck is a safety net that some drops carry. If you open a set number of boxes on that drop without pulling the limited card, you receive a consolation reward — usually a partial refund in the drop's currency, occasionally a card. The threshold is tied to the drop's odds and is shown on the drop card when it applies. Not every drop has it, so treat it as a bonus rather than a guarantee.
- What are drop milestone rewards?
- On some drop days there is a milestone ladder: open a certain number of boxes across that day's drops and you unlock a bonus reward, from gems up to an exclusive card. Some tiers are kept secret until the first player reaches them. The ladder appears as a banner on the Drops screen when one is running, and progress counts every drop that went live that day, not just one.
- What do drops cost?
- Drop boxes are priced per open, usually in blue or purple gems and occasionally in coins. The price is shown on the box. Gems and coins are all earnable in-game through challenges, mini-games, the marketplace and daily rewards, so you can take part in drops without spending money; buying gems just gets you there faster. If an open fails for any reason, the charge is refunded to your wallet automatically.
- I missed a drop — can I still get the card?
- Not from the drop itself once it has ended or sold out. Green cards do circulate afterwards, though: players list them on the marketplace and accept trade offers, and a sold-out card's page in the card index shows how many copies exist. Expect to pay more for a low serial number.
- Do Tuned Up and Filmed Up have drops?
- Yes. Both run drops the same way — a limited Green card with a fixed numbered supply, shown odds, a live claim counter and a weekly cycle — on their own schedules, with their own cards and their own accounts. A drop in one game has no effect on the others.
