BOXED UP HELP
How the game works — rarity tiers, holographics, trading, coins and gems — answered in plain English.
This page describes Boxed Up. Tuned Up and Filmed Up work the same way and share the same seven-tier rarity ladder, but each has its own separate account, collection and marketplace, and the special and seasonal rarities differ between them. See how the three games relate, or check the card index for the rarities a given game actually has.
RARITY TIERS
Every card sits in a rarity tier, and the tier sets the colour of its frame. From most common to rarest:
- 1. Bronze
The entry tier, and the bulk of most early collections.
- 2. Silver
A step up from Bronze, and still the everyday backbone of a collection.
- 3. Gold
The first tier that feels like a real pull, and where card values start to climb.
- 4. Super Rare
Genuinely uncommon. Sought after on the marketplace and a solid trade chip.
- 5. Ultra Rare
Rare enough that most players remember pulling their first one.
- 6. Epic
A chase pull. Only a small fraction of the cards in the game sit this high.
- 7. Ultimate
The top of the ladder, and the hardest thing in Boxed Up to pull.
Beyond the standard ladder there are special rarities — Green, White, Pink, Black and Legendary — plus seasonal ones such as Christmas, Halloween and Easter that appear only during events. These sit outside the ladder rather than above it: a Green card is scarce because only a fixed number are ever minted, not because it outranks an Ultimate. You can see every rarity that currently exists, and every card in each, in the Boxed Up card index.
COMMON QUESTIONS
- What are the rarity tiers in Boxed Up?
- From most common to rarest, the standard ladder runs Bronze, Silver, Gold, Super Rare, Ultra Rare, Epic and Ultimate. Each tier has its own card frame colour, so you can tell a card's rarity at a glance. Alongside the ladder are special rarities — Green, White, Pink, Black and Legendary — plus seasonal ones such as Christmas and Halloween that only appear during events. The seven-tier ladder is identical in Tuned Up and Filmed Up, but the special and seasonal rarities differ per game: Tuned Up, for example, has neither Legendary nor any seasonal rarities.
- What makes a card holographic or glowing?
- Holographic cards, also called glow cards, are special versions of a card with an animated shine. They come out of foil packs and are far scarcer than the standard version of the same card, which makes them worth considerably more on the marketplace. Tilt your phone on a card's detail screen to see the effect move.
- What does the number on my card mean?
- Some rarities are numbered, meaning only a fixed quantity of that card will ever exist and each copy carries its own serial number. A low serial — especially a #1 — is prized by collectors and usually sells for more than a high one, even though the card is otherwise identical.
- How do I trade cards in Boxed Up?
- You can list cards on the in-game marketplace for coins, bid on auctions, or send another player a direct offer. Offers can include cards as well as coins, so you can sweeten a trade with something from your own collection. Cards that are currently listed are locked until the listing ends.
- How do I earn coins and gems?
- Coins come from playing mini-games, completing daily and seasonal challenges, selling cards on the marketplace and opening packs. Gems come in blue, purple and orange, in ascending value, and are earned through challenges, the season pass, daily rewards and gem trades. Nothing on this list requires spending money.
- Is Boxed Up free to play?
- Yes. Boxed Up is free to download and play on iPhone and Android. There are optional in-app purchases, but every card in the game can be earned by playing, and the marketplace runs on coins you earn in-game.
- Is Boxed Up safe for younger players?
- Boxed Up is a collecting game with no real-money trading between players — the marketplace runs on in-game coins only, and cards cannot be cashed out. There is no open chat: players interact through trade offers, and the short messages that can be attached to an offer are content moderated. Optional in-app purchases can be turned off with your device's built-in parental controls.
- How do I redeem a code in Boxed Up?
- Go to the Profile tab and tap Redeem Code, then paste your code in. The option appears once you have opened 5 packs. Current working codes are listed on the Boxed Up codes page.
- What is the season pass?
- The season pass is a track of rewards you unlock by earning XP through normal play over the course of a season. There is a free track everyone progresses through and a premium track with extra rewards. Each new season starts fresh.
